Have you ever heard someone in a camera store ask "Do you have a dead cat?" Awkwardly surprising, right? Film terms can sometimes be weird and funny.
What is a Dead Cat? It's a fluffy cover used on microphones when shooting outside to reduce wind noise. Also called as wind muff. Don't worry, no cats were harmed!
